Tommy Chong married Maxine Sneed in 1960, but the couple divorced ten years later in 1970. The couple’s two children from their marriage were Robbi Chong and Rae Dawn. Tommy Chong started playing guitar in high school and was the guitarist for “The Shades” in the early 1960s. After that, the band renamed itself “Little Daddy & the Bachelors” and relocated to Vancouver, British Columbia.

Later, the band is renamed “Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers.” The band got a deal with “Gordy Records” in 1965 and began work on their debut album.

“Does Your Mama Know About M,” the group’s debut hit, peaked at number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100. The trio, however, disbands, and Motown producer Johnny Bristol fires Bristol.

After being sacked from the band, he formed his own improv and stand-up troupe. He and Richard ‘Cheech’ Marin formed the legendary comedy duo “Cheech & Chong” in 1971.
